Meet the Access Medical/Med Plus Staff
M. David Hilz, MD
Dr. David Hilz was born in Hamilton, OH. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1981. He relocated to Sunset Beach in 1984 for the sun, weather, and golf. He worked at Brunswick Hospital and various emergency rooms in North and South Carolina. He joined Convenience Medical Center in North Myrtle Beach in 1988. North Myrtle Beach is where he would stay. Convenience eventually sold to Doctor’s Care in 1994 and Dr. Hilz made the transition with the practice. In October 2002 Access Medical Center was fortunate to add Dr. Hilz to our wonderful list of physicians. He now practices in North Myrtle office once a week and operates our Loris office. He and his wife Cynthia enjoy spending time with their children who are in college and high school. Cynthia says that his only true passion is medicine. We are thankful for the passion, care, and knowledge that he adds to our practice.
Sean L. Gibbs, MD
Board certified as a family medicine physician, Sean Gibbs relocated to the Grand Strand area in early 2007. He currently practices family medicine, urgent care medicine, and cosmetic skin care. Originally from Philadelphia, he received his undergraduate degree from Penn State University, and then went on to study medicine at Ohio State. His hobbies include movies, sports, and his favorite is Penn State football.
John M. Sherm, MD
After graduating Villanova University, with a degree in mechanical engineering, he served eight years as a Navy attack/ fighter pilot logging over two hundred carrier landings, and a successful emergency ejection, seconds after a catapult launch from the USS Saratoga, during operations in the Middle East. While assigned as an advanced jet flight instructor, he completed his pre-med studies at Texas A&M University, and returned to his wife Ginny and their two sons.
Medical training was completed at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and internship in Allentown, PA. After raising his children and a twenty year partnership at Macungie Medical Center in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania, he was off to the Coastal Carolinas for mild weather and wonderful southern hospitality. Taking care of patients, young and old, at Access Medical Center sine 1997, Dr. Sherm expects to continue his medical practice indefinitely, while also enjoying the year round access to golf and sailing.
Mary L. Tobin, DNS, RS, CS
Dr. Tobin is an Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse with Prescriptive Authority and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She earned her Doctorate in Nursing Science from Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans, LA in 1990. Her dissertation research about cognitive therapy won the Doctoral Award from LSUMC in 1990. She completed both her Master of Science in Nursing (1979) and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (1975) degree from Kent State University in Ohio. She is a Permanent Sponsor of continuing education for Licensed Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Psycho-Educational Specialists in South Carolina.
Jeri McDowell, Administrative Partner
Locally born and raised in Green Sea Floyds, Jeri attended Spartanburg Methodist College and Coastal Carolina. She worked various jobs in Grand Strand until joining Access Medical Center in 1992 as a receptionist. In 2003, she and Dr. James Turek purchased Access Medical. This gave them the opportunity to serve the south and north ends of the Grand Strand. In March 2008 they opened their 3rd location in Loris, SC. Jeri loves her community as well as the opportunity to give back. She is a member of the NMB Women’s Club and serves in several organizations and charities.
Louise Kelly, Office Manager
Louise Kelly relocated to Myrtle Beach from Dublin, Ireland in May 1994. She attended Technical College for business/office procedures in Ireland and worked at a personnel agency. After she and her fiancé arrived in Myrtle Beach, she worked in various offices until she joined the Access Medical Center family in 1995. For over 13 years she has been the office manager of the North Myrtle Beach location. Her dedication and compassion has made her a valued part of this organization. Her goal is to make every patient’s visit comfortable and convenient.
